SCHOOL DISTRICT
Downtown Los Angeles is home to areas such as Bunker Hill, Civic Center, fashion district, jewelry district, and Little Tokyo. It contains schools a part of the Los Angeles Unified School District, such as Ninth Street Elementary School, Public Junior High School, and Downtown Magnets High School. The University of Southern California is one of the world's leading private research universities, located in the heart of Los Angeles.

According to the LA Times Neighborhood Crime Maps, Downtown is ranked 27 out of 209 for most violent crimes per 10,000 people and 43 out of 209 for most property crimes. These rankings are lower than neighboring areas.
SHOPPING
Centrally located in downtown, Fig At 7th and The Bloc are two of the most popular shopping centers in the area. Fig at 7th is an open-air mall located in the financial district that includes retail stores such as Target, Victoria’s Secret, and Zara. Nearby on Flower Street, The Bloc is also open-air and contains stores such as Macy’s, Uniqlo, and Nordstrom Local.
RESTAURANTS
Downtown has a great diversity of food to offer. Beginning with Little Tokyo, one can find the most fresh and authentic sushi in all of LA, the most popular spots being Sushi Enya and Sushi Gen. The Arts District offers great healthy spots which have both vegan and vegetarian options, such as Cafe Gratitude, Zinque, and Urth Caffe.
GROCERY STORES
Located on S. Grand Ave, one of the most popular eco-friendly and organic food stores is Whole Foods Market. It is in perfect walking distance from anywhere that is centrally located downtown and has great, California-style food in the hot bar area. For a more general grocery store, Ralphs is located just two blocks away from Whole Foods on 9th Street and has everything you could need from a basic grocery store.
GYMS & ACTIVITIES
To stay active in downtown, there are many gyms and workout classes that are centrally located. Equinox is a 24-hr gym located on Flower Street that has everything from locker rooms, to classes, and high-class machines. For something a little more basic, there is a Gold’s Gym conveniently located at FigAt7th where you can get some shopping down along with a workout. SoulCycle and PureBarre are also popular workout classes with locations downtown if you want a more specific workout such as cycling or pilates.
LANDMARKS & ATTRACTIONS
Some fun activities around downtown include parks like Grand Park LA and Pershing Square. Both are centrally located and perfect for a morning run or afternoon dog-walk. If you want something a bit more touristy, Oue Skyspace is known for its 360-degree view of LA from the observation deck of the US Bank building. It also contains Skyslide, a 45-foot chute that is completely transparent and rides alongside the top of the US Bank building for a full view of DTLA and its views.
